In March 2024 we put Terrible, Thanks for Asking on hiatus.
It was a long time coming, and still terrifying: this has been my (and others’) full-time job (on top of other full-time jobs, because that is the nature of self-employment in this age) for many years.
After 10 years of grieving and 8 years of intense production exploring and sharing the terrible things that we've survived I'm craving work that feels more aligned with who and where I am right now. Everything I do will always have a sprinkle of sadness, but I'm no longer Terrible and while Terrible, Thanks for Asking has run its course, I have not.
I’m relaunching the podcast in January as simply Thanks for Asking, a bi-monthly podcast in video and audio format available only to paid subscribers here on my Substack, where all my writing already lives.
Podcast's advertising model has changed significantly in the past few years, and I don't like it.
Choosing ads selectively is a privilege that even fewer can afford, and subscriber support helps me circumvent this model, which has been eating at me for years.
Starting January 1, a year on Substack will be $80, or $8 a month, one flat rate for all members that will get you access to:
2x/month podcast episodes ad-free
2x/month videos ad-free and early
Paid-only essays, chats and monthly lives (like office hours but on a Sunday!)
The full back catalog (ad-free) for Terrible, Thanks for Asking
If you're feeling wildly generous, there is a Founding Member level that will get you your name in the credits of every Thanks for Asking episode.
The price change doesn’t affect current paid subscribers, so if you want to lock in the current price, now’s the time to join!
I love Substack for many reasons, and one is that it makes it easy to offer group discounts, gift subscriptions and to comp memberships for people who can’t afford them (Patreon wouldn’t! Rude!).
If you’re a current paid Patreon subscriber:
Welcome!
Substack has moved your subscription terms here. Everyone needs to click the button below to choose a tier of support and enter credit card information here to keep getting your episodes of Thanks for Asking.
Annual subscribers, you will not be charged again until your Patreon renewal date, but you still need to update your payment information ASAP.
Monthly subscribers, you will receive a month free on Substack and then start being charged monthly as usual.
Please upgrade on mobile web or desktop with the same email address you used on Patreon (i.e. don't go into the Substack app). You WON’T be able to update your payment info in the Substack app. If you use a different email on Substack or you get charged right away for some reason, shoot a note to launchsupport@substackinc.com and they’ll get you sorted.
If you’re coming from Apple Podcast Subscriptions, please:
Click the button above to update your payment information on Substack
Please email a screenshot of your membership from Apple Podcasts Subscriptions to launchsupport@substackinc.com so that we can honor your membership on Substack.
You’ll start getting 2 podcast episodes a month in your inbox, but they’ll only be here on Substack
Use a new private RSS feed to get the back catalog of TTFA and new episodes of Thanks for Asking in your favorite podcast player (including Spotify and Apple Podcasts). You can set it up through the “manage subscription” section of your account, or we’ve attached a short video below of how to set this up.
Watch and listen on the Substack app by clicking on your Feelings & Co. subscription and going to “posts”.
Set your notifications to email you when new episodes are posted, and click through to watch or listen.
Most of this Substack is free; a paid subscription makes the work possible and makes a ton of work accessible to everyone free of charge, including:
~100 back catalog episodes of TTFA
400+ episodes of It's Going To Be OK
An entire YouTube channel with 2 videos/month
Free weekly essays
"Scholarships" for those who can't afford a paid membership
This move is about giving everyone more, not taking anything away.
It's also reflective of the natural evolution of my creative work. For the first time in awhile, I’m actually pretty okay, thanks for asking.
xo,
Nora
The url link to add the subscriber feed isn’t working for me in Apple Podcasts. Just a me issue?
I am already and just a substack subscriber. My button already says subscriber, so do I need to do anything?
