I have literally nothing to wear.
-me, a person with a closet full of clothes.
Despite the full hangers, overflowing drawers, and stacks of shoes, it often feels like there is not one single item of clothing I could put on my body. And yet, there has also not been a single day where I have walked out of the door butt naked.
It’s one of America’s most pressing unsolved mysteries, and because I’m a detective with very little pattern recognition the only way I could solve it was to take a photo of myself every single time I wore something that felt good.
The results were…shocking, honestly.
I think of myself as a Miss Frizzle, and yet, this is what I (actually) wore in Q1.
Pants
These jeans: they run big and ride low, but not in a “low rise jeans” kind of way (does that make any sense?). I bought them a year ago, wore them all over Europe and they have remained a staple. The denim feels substantial (no stretch! I hate stretch!) but soft, and I think I wear them enough to justify a pair in dark blue. I’m in a 28L, and could wear a 27L…not because I’m a 27, but because women’s sizing makes literally no sense at all. Isn’t that fun?!
A pair of black cropped wide-leg jeans that sit a little higher and have a little stretch (something I typically hate).
A pair of cropped off-white wide-leg jeans (a theme is forming?) that are no longer being made, but feel like these.
Wool-blend suit pants that helped me feel like I had a real job (I do not).
Tops
This perfect white button down in white and blue: expensive, but worth it (there’s a version at GAP that’s more affordable and has a similar fit)
These cashmere turtlenecks (I got the black one last Christmas and the cream one this Christmas), which are now very much on sale. They’re cozy and chic and made me feel pulled together.
I reached for an oversized, chunky striped cotton sweater over and over. I got mine on the Bad Vibes Only tour in 2022, but this one is very similar (and on sale).
Shoes
Bass Weejun Loafers: bought sometime in the past decade (I want to say 2015?!), still going strong. I had fully forgotten about these, and now I am sad to put them away for the summer (it’s 90 in Phoenix already, so yeah, I’m already on summer clothes).
With respect to the Samba community, Barredas are my favorite Adidas. There’s nothing I wouldn’t wear them with, they’re so comfy and cute.
Accessories
I re-pierced my ears in late 2025, and I could finally wear earrings!
I wanted diamond studs but do not have that lifestyle or budget, but as far as I’m concerned, these are diamonds and I won’t hear otherwise.
Earrings still kind of freak me out, and I can’t see myself wearing anything dangly (I’ll spare you what I imagine) but for now I feel safe with the “diamond” studs or my simple huggie hoops.
Several hot lesbians convinced me to buy these sunglasses and they were right.
These sunglasses are a bit Carolyn Bessette Kennedy cosplay (derogatory), but I couldn’t resist them.
My winter clothes are all packed up, and now I’m going through every single thing in my closet, from bracelets to bras, and wondering what I’m going to (actually) wear this Spring.
xoxo
